computer to take into the field. I needed Win XP, long battery
life and small size and light in weight.

I chose the Gateway LT2114u on its specs and I am not disappointed.
Amazingly, the keyboard size is almost the same as my
desktop keyboard; that made the transition easy.
I needed Win XP because the software I use was written
for XP and I don’t need any surprises in the field
with Win 7 or others.

Purchased this Acer AO532h-2406 small 10.1″ screen netbook for travel convenience. By was I happy!! Lightweight made the trip to Aruba a pleasure by not having to haul a heavy laptop on vacation. Got used to the 93& keyboard size in short order and actually like it better than the full-size version. Very fast start up from the shut down or sleep cycle. Screen brightness is a real plus while outside or on a plane. The embedded camera was perfect for SKYPE and MICROSOFT MESSENGER LIVE communications and saved us a fortune to keep in contact with home. Battery life is excellent, ranging from 8-10 hours/charge depending on functions being used. Speakers are high quality and sound volume more than adequate. Speed was excellent even with the base 1G of RAM.

I bought this Acer Aspire Timeline AS3810TZ-4806 laptop for my husband as a replacement to his six year old Sony Vaio. We opted to go with a cheaper brand since this was to be primarily used for light surfing, word processing, and work-related travel.

From the moment this laptop came out of the box, it had constant problems connecting to the internet. We would have to reset the modem and router, as well as the laptop itself. When the laptop connected, it would often drop the connection. When it was connected, it would run so slow that it would take minutes and minutes to simply upload the next page. This was not a problem with our internet, since we run several other laptops and gaming devices with no problems. This was specific to the laptop. We contacted Acer in an effort to resolve this problem. After installing an update to the driver, the problem seemed to be resolved. However, two days later, it re-occurred. My husband was so frustrated with this laptop, that we have returned it. Unfortunately, it appears I’m only entitled to a 85% return, which is completely frustrating because we feel the laptop is defective. Although I purchased an ASUS laptop from Amazon, which has no problems, I will never purchase another one from Amazon because I refuse to be subjected to the return policy again.

Since my husband tried to use this laptop for home web surfing and to access his computer at work, the fact that the internet refuses to stay connected is unacceptable. He has stated he will never purchase another Acer product again.

If you are considering buying a netbook for a travel computer take a look at this Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810T-8488 instead. It is a full feature laptop ( 1.3mhz Centrino 2 chip…) no bigger than a legal pad. The only thing it lacks is an internal DVD drive, but there are dozens of external USB powered DVD drives available (i.e. HP 556s …) to take along if you need one. I got my 1810T from Tiger Direct, they have them in stock at their local retail outlets. The screen on this 1810T is sharp. It comes complete with Windows 7 Premium (x64) and 4gb of DDR2 ram. The hard drive is a big 320gb size but only 5400 RPM. A 7200 RPM drive might make it a little faster but since it’s not a gaming computer it doesn’t really matter. When the prices come down on large SSD drives that would be a better option. The battery life is indeed long but to get near the 8 hour life they advertise you need to turn off the Wi-Fi. Otherwise you’ll see about 5 hours of battery life. The laptop cover is shiney and smooth texture which means finger prints will show easily. Overall I’m very satisfied with this little laptop, and it’s perfect to throw in my suitcase for travel. It beats the netbooks hands down.

I am very happy with this Acer Aspire AS5740-6025 laptop. This is the 2nd Acer Aspire we have purchased and have 3 Acer laptops in our house now. If we needed another, I would buy this exact one again. Researched many, almost stayed loyal to sony vaio (prior laptop), but this laptop was more bang for the buck…and it hasn’t dissappointed.

Negatives:
-Battery life is not great. This is not a laptop for a coast to coast flight (US) but that’s what a Kingle/iPad is for.
-Speakers arent great: i use tiny HP speakers at my desk and earphones when not…not a big issue for me.
-Touchpad is good enough…i use a wireless mouse though.

Postives (far outweigh negatives):
-500GB, 4GB RAM for a little over $600 (Mar 2010 price).
-Great graphics/screen…it can be tough in direct sun, but I use it outside often.
-Fast processing, great keyboard, pretty light for a 15.6″ laptop.
-4 USB ports, HDMI port to stream movies to TV, button to turn touchpad off….and a lot more.

SUMMARY: Very happy with this purchase. I order from Amazon frequently and have always been happy. I recommend this laptop and Amazon.

I was so excited about all the versions of this ASUS G73JH-A2 that i almost bought one before they even released them in the U.S, well now i’m glad i didnt. Asus to me now it a joke, i’ve had about 3 different machines all with about the same crashing, freezing, blue screen, bad wireless issues. Well this one is no exception with more problems than the others. The ATI 5870 is a joke, it barely runs Crysis on Medium settings without extreme lag, i also ran a benchmark test on Resident Evil 5 and got around 40fps, and drops down to 21!! Come on, this can’t be right, also under the Windows Ratings Index for graphics it scored a 5.4, that can’t be correct being that the GTX 260 scores a 6.7. Even when i upgraded the drivers it did the same thing, so something is seriously wrong with the hardware configuration in this machine. Also the rubbery finish seems nice until you use it for a while, then it starts to peel off, you can start to feel little rubber pieces brushing off underneath your palms!!! I have an Emachines i got for 298$, its flawless, no its not a powerhouse gaming machines, but it is fast, silent, sturdy, NEVER freezes, wireless pops up as fast as you can bring it out of sleep mode, and guess what, no such thing as the blue screen of death on it. So Asus has let me and a lot of other folks down, do yourself a favor and don’t get this bomb of a laptop. Also i should mention the screen is just awful, not even LED back lit for 1199$, if it is i must have missed it. Save money, get a desktop, fix it up and game on it, they are still superb for powerhouse computing.

This is for the Best Buy Version, its the same computer with less hard drive space, lower resolution and less RAM and no blu-ray, still the same machine though.

This Asus Eee PC 1008P-KR-PU17-BR netbook was a perfect buy for my wife. We have purchased ASUS netbooks before but this one (unlike the others) has a very sturdy and well built feel to it while the others feel flimsy. The only complaint I have is the bottom of the netbook gets so hot that it burns to have on your lap. I’ve owned several laptops/netbooks and have never had a machine cook like this. The netbook would get 5/5 stars if it weren’t for the concerns I have with the device overheating easily.
